This group is part of the larger Maryland-National Capital Parks and Planning Commission and manages all the county parks including their building, planning and maintenance as well as providing recreational, environmental and educational opportunities.

The community gardens program provides residents with access to over 600  garden plots at one of thirteen sites throughout the county. This year three of these gardens grew, harvested and donated over 500 pounds of fresh produce to three nearby food assistance providers through HarvestShare.

In addition to the community gardens, Pope Farm, a tree nursery responsible for supplying parks with landscaping plants, donated a whopping 1000 pounds of cooking pumpkins and root vegetables to these same non-profits. Another 1500 pounds of Jack-O-Lantern type pumpkins were shared with low-income families prior to Halloween. Thank you, Parks, for your BIG contributions.
