Last Friday, twelve Master Gardener volunteers headed north to a  beautiful orchard in Westminster on the invitation of its owner Stanton Gill,  UMD Professor of  Entomology, Extension Specialist and Professor in the Landscape Technology program at Montgomery College. The day was warm but with blue skies, a gentle breeze and great company, the group made easy work of a potentially laborious task. Although it was heading toward the end of cherry season and heavy rains had saturated the fruit earlier in the week, this dedicated group of gardeners managed to pick 140 pounds of table-ready cherries to donate to a county food assistance provider. Rockville non-profit So What Else was extremely grateful for the fresh produce and had plans to distribute the fruit to clients on Sunday. A huge thanks again to MacBride and Gill Falcon Ridge Farm for allowing us access to their property and thank you MoCo Master Gardeners for gleaning to support community
