In November of 2020, HarvestShare was awarded a grant from the Montgomery County Department of Health and Human Services and the Montgomery County Food Council to create and distribute grab-and-go gardening kits for food-insecure clients of Rainbow Community Development Center (RCDC), a non-profit in Silver Spring, Maryland.
This collaborative effort between HarvestShare, the Montgomery County Master Gardeners (MCMG) and RCDC provides both the materials for creating a greens garden out of repurposed produce crates as well as the educational materials needed to successfully plant, grow and harvest the vegetables. The kit includes a 15 x 23-inch plastic crate, 32-quart bag of potting mix, and plants and seeds to fill this container garden. The Master Gardeners will provide an educational brochure available in multiple languages as well as online resources to support this endeavor. Weather dependent, this program will launch in late March or early April of 2021. Please contact HarvestShare for more information on how you can help.
